Being A Parent Is Hard Work

Question: My son is 8, his behavior is when I get on him for doing something wrong, that he knows he's not suppose to do, he says I'm being mean, and throw fits and then starts talking smart, saying he doesn't need me, he hates me.

Dear Sonja,
Being a parent is so hard sometimes! As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I only treat adults. But I am a mom like you so I can understand how you are feeling. There are parenting classes and workshops that may be able to help you learn how to manage your child's behavior. You can ask your pediatrician for some referrals or check your local paper for class schedules. Many local hospitals also offer parenting classes. It will help you to be in a class with other parents experiencing the same issues. Good luck and let us know how things go.
