In school, we spent many classes learning about ending therapy. There are chapters and portions of text books dedicated to this very topic. Of course, each client reacts differently. If possible, you may want to focus on how the separation feels for you. The common theme of the last few sessions should be about the effects of separation upon you. I would encourage you to use this time to be a bit more introspective and attempt to accept and tolerate feelings such as sadness, loneliness, and anxiety. In your last few sessions, you can talk about your feelings with your therapist before the event actually happens. This helps you to integrate the experience and make it more bearable. Termination with a therapist really brings forth the experience and meaning of separation. Each person copes with separation differently. It is most important for you to use your last sessions to talk about your feelings towards your therapist leaving. Good luck and let us know how things go.Eleventh Hour LLChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10920410486363153750noreply@blogger.com
